Greystoke Parish Community Housing Survey

Following the public meetings in respect of Atkinson Homes’ proposal to build houses in Greystoke, it was suggested that a small group of Greystoke residents should meet to consider how the parish could have a greater involvement in future residential planning.

Greystoke is an historic village with many special features and qualities. At the public meeting there seemed to be an enthusiasm for a sensible and sensitively managed increase in the number of affordable homes in Greystoke to enable more young people and families to live in the village and contribute to the long-term sustainability and security of the community.

On the assumption that this is a widely held opinion, this small residents group has had four exploratory meetings. Some opportunities for funding have been identified as well as issues to be considered. Notes from these meetings have been posted on the village Facebook page.

However, before any real progress can be made it is important to understand what housing initiatives the residents of Greystoke would be prepared to support.
Learning from both the Story and Atkinson’s experiences, it is vital that your views are understood and acted upon.

So, this a short questionnaire which is simply designed to understand whether Greystoke’s residents would support the principle of managing the careful provision of a small number of affordable homes for young people and families. Only if there is sufficient support in principle will proposals such as the number of homes, potential locations and eligibility criteria for people living in them be developed, with the views of the local community being actively sought at every stage.

This is the first opportunity for you to guide the activities of this small working group.
